NJ cop poses as a shrub to ticket distracted drivers

A New Jersey police officer went undercover, disguised as a shrub, and helped catch dozens of distracted drivers.

The Dunellen Police Department said an officer dressed up as a shrub during a distracted driving enforcement detail on North Washington Avenue.

The operation targeted drivers who were violating New Jersey’s handheld cell phone law in the busy, pedestrian-heavy downtown area.

Over a six-hour period, police issued 74 citations to drivers who were caught using their devices while behind the wheel.

The department shared photos of the leafy undercover officer online, where the unusual operation quickly sparked plenty of tree-related puns.

Police used the stunt to send a serious message: Texts and notifications can wait. “Keep your eyes on the road, not your screen,” the department said.
