The government is committed to ensuring that every eligible journalist in the state receives an accreditation card, said Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Minister for Revenue, Housing, Information & Public Relations. He added that the public government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy, is fully dedicated to the welfare of journalists.
On Thursday, the Minister held an extensive discussion at his office in the Secretariat with Information & Public Relations Commissioner Smt. CH. Priyanka and Chief Minister’s PR Officer Sri G. Malsur regarding the issuance of accreditation cards, formation of the accreditation committee, and related matters. He provided directions to ensure the process is transparent and expedited.
The Minister noted that the government initially issued G.O. 252 for accreditation card issuance. Subsequently, after detailed consultations with journalist associations, suggestions were incorporated, and G.O. 103 was issued. These amendments allow a total of 44,706 accreditation cards for journalists across print, electronic, and digital media in the state. Previously, only around 23,000 journalists had accreditation cards; the new decision will increase the number by over 21,000.
The total of 44,706 cards includes 16,056 at state and district level and 28,650 at constituency and mandal level.
The Minister emphasized that the issuance of accreditation cards is an ongoing process, and further meetings will be held as needed for additional actions. He reaffirmed that the government prioritizes the respect, safety, and welfare of media personnel, recognizing their role as the fourth pillar of democracy.
“The government is committed to ensuring that every eligible journalist in the state receives an accreditation card. Accreditation process made more transparent to ensure fairness.”
