Dar uses ‘fake’ news report to praise PAF

- Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar used a "fake" news report attributed to a UK-based daily to praise his country's Air Force in the Senate.

- Citing the viral "fake news", Dar told lawmakers that 'The Daily Telegraph' reported that "Pakistan Air Force is the undisputed king of the skies." However, his claim was fact-checked by the Dawn newspaper, which termed the viral news report as "fake".

- "Posts from multiple users across social media have been circulating a photo since May 10, 2025, allegedly showing the front page of UK-based The Daily Telegraph newspaper declaring the Pakistan Air Force the "King of the Skies" amid the recent escalation with India. However, there was no such article published and the screenshot is a fake," the newspaper said.

- It said one Barrister Khadija Siddiqi on May 10 posted a photo of the fake news from a British daily, featuring a news story accompanied by a headline that read: "Pakistan Air Force: The Undisputed King of the Skies".

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar both have called for a "composite dialogue" with India to address the contentious issues between the two sides. Sharif, however, linked the dialogue to the Kashmir issue, saying India-Pak should hold a dialogue on Kashmir.

He extended the offer to India while interacting with the Pakistan Air Force pilots and personnel during a special visit to Kamra air base on Thursday. He said Pakistan was willing to hold talks to achieve peace, but it had certain conditions. He urged India to hold talks on the Kashmir issue, The Express Tribune reported.

Meanwhile, addressing the Senate on Thursday, Dar said the "ceasefire" with India has been extended till May 18, but a political dialogue will ultimately have to take place to resolve the problems between the two neighbours.

India carried out precision strikes under 'Operation Sindoor' on terror infrastructure early on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Following the Indian action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10.
