Palampet's Gollala gudi gets national heritage status

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has declared the historic Gollala Gudi at Palampet in Mulug district a monument of National importance, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Culture.

In this regard, a notification was published in the Gazette of India on August 31, 2026, under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. Located southwest of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) temple, Gollala Gudi is a distinctive Kakatiya-era Trikutalaya with an east-facing mandapa and three sanctums.

The temple is noted for its intricate stone carvings, including hamsas, jali work, floral motifs and animal figures. Its walls feature sculptural niches depicting deities including Vishnu, Lakshmi, Ganesha and Mahishasuramardini.

Two detached shrines in front of the main temple, decorated with finely carved dvarapalas, further enhance the architectural significance of the monument. The declaration is expected to strengthen the conservation and protection of the lesser-known Kakatiya architectural treasure and add another important heritage attraction to Palampet.
