In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Andhra Pradesh, Galiveedu Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) Jawahar Babu was brutally assaulted by YSR Congress Party leader Sudarshan Reddy and his associates while on duty. The attack, which occurred on Friday, left Jawahar Babu severely injured and hospitalized at Kadapa RIMS.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan visited the victim on Saturday, strongly condemning the assault and calling for strict legal action against the perpetrators.
Speaking to the media outside Kadapa RIMS Hospital, Pawan Kalyan described the incident as a direct attack on the state’s administrative machinery. “The attack on MPDO Jawahar Babu is not just an assault on an individual but an assault on the government itself.
Such acts of arrogance and dominance by YSRCP leaders are unacceptable. If they think their power allows them to act with impunity, we will ensure the law brings them to justice,” he declared.
According to reports, Sudarshan Reddy, along with approximately 20 accomplices, stormed the MPDO's office, physically assaulting Jawahar Babu over a dispute involving office keys that were supposed to be handed to Sudarshan Reddy's mother, an MPP (Mandal Parishad President).
When Jawahar Babu refused to violate established protocols, the situation escalated violently. The injured officer, who has pre-existing health conditions, was rushed to Kadapa RIMS for treatment.
Upon learning of the incident, Pawan Kalyan immediately reached out to district authorities and ensured swift action was taken. Police have since arrested Sudarshan Reddy, and cases have been registered against 13 individuals under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Pawan Kalyan lambasted the ruling YSRCP, accusing its leaders of fostering a culture of dominance and violence. “Despite being reduced to just 11 seats, their arrogance has not waned. They believe they can assault anyone who questions them or refuses to bow to their whims,” he said, adding, “This is not the first time Sudarshan Reddy has been involved in such incidents.
He has previously attacked other officials, showing a pattern of behavior that must be addressed.” During his visit, Pawan Kalyan met with Jawahar Babu’s family, offering them reassurance and support. Addressing the larger implications of the incident, Pawan Kalyan urged the youth of Rayalaseema to stand against such oppressive acts.
“Rayalaseema youth must rise against these atrocities. Do not fear anyone. Question wrongdoings and fight for justice. Leaders who indulge in violence and dominance have no place in our democracy,” he said.
“Officials who work tirelessly for the public deserve respect and safety. Any physical assault on them will be dealt with severely. We will not let the perpetrators go unpunished,” he affirmed.
