People want Araku railway station in Waltair Division

Since the news of Rayagada rail division to be carved out from Waltair to be the fourth one in the zone and 70th in the country broke out, people of Araku have been raising their voice to retain it in Waltair Division.  YSRCP Member of Parliament from Araku G. Tanuja Rani has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to keep the Araku railway station under the Waltair Division as shifting it to the Rayagada Division will hurt the sentiments of lakhs of tribal people.

Dr. Tanuja, who met the Railway Minister in New Delhi on Thursday, said the Railways decision caused tension among people of Araku and other parts of her constituency. She said tourism would also be affected if the station was disconnected from Andhra Pradesh. She urged the public representatives to raise their voice on the issue. Rayagada railway station (Station Code:- RGDA) serves Rayagada district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is one of the 3 railway divisions of East Coast Railway and an important railway station of Southern Odisha. 

Here 58 trains arrive and departure and this station has direct route to more than 15 states and also well connected to all the Metropolitan Cities of India. The station is located at the heart of the city and now it has the longest platform in Odisha (Platform No 3 measuring 910m), the 6th in the country and the 7th longest in the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone of the newly-created Rayagada Railway Division building of East Coast Railway (ECoR) along with two more projects in Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana in virtual mode from New Delhi.
