Donald Trump’s physician has said the president is in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief after a medical exam on Tuesday at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre. A report from Dr Sean Barbabella, released on Friday, states Trump underwent a CT scan and heart imaging, along with preventative assessments by 22 specialists.

Trump, 79, weighed 238 pounds (nearly 108 kg), with doctors concluding his “cognitive and physical performance are excellent”. The report documented minor bruising on Trump’s hands, explained as a “common and benign effect of aspirin therapy”. Doctors noted “slight lower leg swelling” from chronic venous insufficiency but said there was “improvement from last year”. Trump again scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. His cholesterol levels have also improved.

The exam was his fourth since returning to office. While past leaders have released select results, there is no law requiring full disclosure. Trump, who turns 80 next month, has sought to counter public concern about his age and stamina. —AP
