Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted the importance of quality in governance, particularly in irrigation and food distribution, during his address at the 39th Annual Convention of the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), Hyderabad Chapter.

He emphasized that rigorous standards in these sectors ensure public welfare reaches citizens without diversion or spoilage.

Reddy stressed that the quality of irrigation infrastructure—projects, canals, pipelines, and reservoirs—directly impacts farmers' livelihoods. He warned that poor design and execution could disrupt water supply for decades. Similarly, he underscored the need for quality in civil supplies—from procurement to distribution—to ensure that taxpayer money is spent efficiently, benefiting the poor.

The Minister also discussed Telangana's strategy of integrating digitization, real-time monitoring, and automation to ensure supply chain efficiency. On a national scale, he pointed out that quality is crucial for India’s global competitiveness. Poor quality, he warned, damages “Brand India,” while world-class standards boost credibility and access to international markets.

Reddy framed quality as essential in all sectors like manufacturing, services, and governance. He stressed that for India to achieve self-reliance by 2047, the country must focus on three pillars: innovation, skill development, and quality excellence. Without these, India’s long-term goals cannot be sustained, and competing globally would be impossible.
