As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls commenced across Telangana on Thursday, BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy strongly defended the exercise, describing it as a constitutional, transparent and legally mandated process aimed at ensuring accurate and credible voter lists.

Inspecting the distribution of enumeration forms in Hyderabad, Ramchander Rao clarified that the SIR is not a Central Government programme but an initiative undertaken by the Election Commission of India to maintain clean electoral rolls. He said similar exercises had been conducted several times across the country without controversy and accused the Congress and BRS of spreading misinformation by alleging that genuine voters would be removed from the rolls.

He asserted that the objective of the exercise is to identify and eliminate duplicate, fake and deceased voters while ensuring that every eligible Indian citizen is included in the electoral roll. The BJP leader maintained that the process is neither targeted against any religion, caste or region nor against genuine citizens from other states, adding that every eligible citizen has the right to vote but can be enrolled only at one location.

Ramchander Rao appealed to the public, booth level agents and party workers to fully cooperate with Booth Level Officers during the verification process. He also urged citizens to immediately report any suspected illegal enrolment, including that of Bangladeshi or Rohingya infiltrators, to the Election Commission.

In a separate statement issued from New Delhi, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy reiterated that the SIR is a constitutional exercise being implemented nationwide in phases under the supervision of the Election Commission. He said the programme has already been completed successfully in several states, including BJP governed states, without disruption.

Kishan Reddy appealed to political parties not to politicise the process and said updating electoral rolls is essential to preserving transparency and credibility in elections. He directed BJP MPs, MLAs and party workers to actively participate in the exercise under the leadership of BJP state president Ramchander Rao and ensure that not a single fake or duplicate vote remains in the revised electoral rolls.
