Doctors at Medicover Hospitals successfully treated a young woman suffering from a rare and life-threatening metabolic complication, euglycaemic ketoacidosis, a condition that is often difficult to diagnose due to near-normal blood sugar levels.

The patient was brought in a critical condition with drowsiness, altered sensorium, and low Glasgow Coma Scale. Her health rapidly worsened, leading to respiratory failure and the need for immediate ventilator support. Investigations revealed high anion gap metabolic acidosis with euglycaemic ketosis, suspected to be triggered by medication.

The case was further complicated as the patient was pregnant and had suffered intrauterine fetal demise, making treatment more challenging. A multidisciplinary team of specialists, including Dr. Thajammul Samrin, Dr. Balasubrahmanyam, and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Mishra, acted swiftly. With timely diagnosis and intensive care, the patient recovered and is now stable, doctors said.
