Lok Satta Party has welcomed the State Government’s decision to constitute a Districts Reorganization Commission (DRC), but strongly demanded that a retired Supreme Court judge be appointed as its Chairman to ensure impartiality, transparency and constitutional propriety.

Party State President Tummanapalli Srinivas, in a press statement on Tuesday, said that any reorganization of the districts must be undertaken solely with the objectives of administrative convenience and public welfare, and not for political considerations.

He pointed out that the nationwide reorganization of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies is expected within the next year, and therefore cautioned the State Government against repeating the mistakes of the previous regime. He urged that district reorganization should be taken up only after completion of constituency delimitation, so that administrative boundaries remain logical, stable and coherent.

Srinivas alleged that the district formation undertaken by the previous government was arbitrary, unscientific, and devoid of rational criteria, describing it as a mere farce. He said that the failure to properly consider population size, geographical area, and administrative feasibility has led to serious governance challenges and administrative chaos.

Emphasizing the need for a fresh and sincere approach, he said the present government must ensure that past mistakes are not repeated. “If the State Government proceeds without due diligence and scientific planning, it will have to bear full responsibility for the consequences”, he warned.
