Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a fervent appeal to all political parties across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to rise above political differences and unite in support of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, who has been declared as the Vice Presidential candidate by the Congress-led INDI Alliance.
Revanth described the announcement of Justice Sudershan Reddy’s candidature as a moment of pride for all Telugus, particularly the people of Telangana. He urged all 42 Lok Sabha MPs and 18 Rajya Sabha MPs from the two Telugu states to extend unconditional support. “This is not about party politics. It is about Telugu pride, about protecting the Constitution, and about showcasing our unity before the nation,” he said.
When asked whether Telangana Congress proposed the name of Sudershan Reddy, Revanth said INDI Bloc chose the candidate who was an apolitical figure not belonging to any party.
The Chief Minister recalled that in 1991 when Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao contested from Nandyal Lok Sabha seat, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao displayed rare statesmanship by not fielding a candidate against him. “That gesture showed Telugu unity and strengthened our identity at the national level. Today, history gives us another such opportunity,” Revanth remarked.
Appealing by name to leaders of all major parties – N. Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), K. Chandrashekar Rao (BRS), Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRCP), Pawan Kalyan (Janasena), Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM), and Left parties – Revanth stressed that Justice Sudershan Reddy is an apolitical figure who has dedicated his life to the legal field. He has chaired expert panels, including on the caste survey, and has made recommendations to uplift backward classes in education, employment and local governance.
“Though the BJP has already declared its candidate, I appeal to all Telugu parties to reassess their stand. Let us not miss this chance to elevate a son of Telugu soil to one of the highest constitutional positions,” Revanth urged. He also indicated that if directed by the national leadership, he would personally reach out even to his political rivals, including KCR, to seek their support.
Drawing a sharp contrast between the NDA and the INDI Bloc, Revanth accused the BJP of mocking democracy by indulging in electoral malpractice and undermining the Constitution. “On one side is the NDA that wants to tamper with the Constitution and weaken democracy. On the other side is the INDI Alliance, which stands firmly to safeguard the Constitution, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B. R. Ambedkar,” he said.
“This is a responsibility on every Telugu person. Justice Sudershan Reddy’s victory will not just be a personal achievement, but a collective honour for Telugu people,” Revanth stressed, urging political maturity, unity, and a commitment to democratic values from all stakeholders.
