Gutha Sukender Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council, paid rich tributes to Suravaram Pratap Reddy, a distinguished poet, social reformer, and political leader, on his 129th birth anniversary. Speaking at the celebrations held at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday, he described Suravaram as a visionary who championed Telangana’s cause nearly a century ago.

He praised Suravaram’s pioneering efforts in awakening public consciousness through the Golconda newspaper and recalled his role in promoting social justice. Highlighting a key moment in history, Gutha Sukender Reddy noted how Suravaram ensured that Dalit leader Badyareddy Varma was given a platform to speak at the Andhra Mahasabha in Jogipet, defying the rigid social norms of the time.

The Telangana government has honored Suravaram Pratap Reddy by naming Telugu University after him and has pledged to officially commemorate his birth anniversary every year. Gutha Sukender Reddy stated that he would take this proposal to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to ensure its formal implementation.

By celebrating his legacy, the government seeks to preserve Suravaram Pratap Reddy’s contributions to literature, social reform, and Telangana’s identity for future generations.
