The Hyderabad Traffic Police said in a press release on Wednesday that road safety was its paramount concern. Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, D. Joel Davis mentioned that in addition to regular traffic regulation and enforcement, the Hyderabad Traffic Police has been undertaking special drives to make the city’s roads safer for commuters and to reduce fatalities resulting from road accidents.
He expressed concern that wrong-side driving has become a common and dangerous practice in Hyderabad which not only caused traffic congestion but also posed a serious threat to the safety of both the violators and other road users. He reminded that Wrong-side driving is a grave traffic violation and was one of the major causes of road accidents as it creates confusion and obstruction for law-abiding motorists.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police also stated that to prevent such incidents and improve overall road discipline, it has been conducting special drives against motorists indulging in “wrong-side driving” i.e., driving against the direction of traffic flow. During the first week of October 2025 (from 01-10-2025 to 07-10-2025), a total of 10,652 cases were booked against violators and were penalized under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.
The department informed that it continues to organize various traffic education and awareness programs to educate commuters about traffic rules and road safety. Citizens would be sensitized through social media platforms to promote responsible driving behavior.
