In a grand gesture recognizing sporting excellence, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced a cash incentive of Rs 2.5 crore, 1,000 sq. yard housing plot in Kadapa, and a Group-1 government job for Telugu cricketer Sri Charani, a member of the Indian women’s cricket team that recently clinched the Women’s World Cup.
Sri Charani, accompanied by former India captain Mithali Raj, met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for IT and Sports Nara Lokesh at the CM’s camp office in Amaravati on Friday. Minister Lokesh welcomed the cricketer with a bouquet as the Chief Minister felicitated her for bringing glory to the nation.
The Chief Minister praised Sri Charani for her stellar performance on the global stage and lauded her as a role model for aspiring women athletes. “By winning the Women’s World Cup, you have showcased the strength and talent of Indian women to the world. You have inspired countless young girls to dream big,” Chandrababu said, extending his best wishes for her continued success in international cricket. Expressing gratitude to the state government for its recognition, Sri Charani shared her experiences from the World Cup triumph and presented the Chief Minister with a team jersey signed by all her teammates, which he accepted warmly. Earlier in the day, Sri Charani received a rousing welcome at Gannavaram Airport, where Ministers Anitha, Savita, Sandhya Rani, Andhra Cricket Association President Kesineni Chinni, Secretary Sana Satish, and SHAP Chairman Animini Ravinaidu joined to felicitate her.
The Chief Minister’s announcement marks one of the most generous sports rewards in recent times, reaffirming Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to encouraging women in sports and celebrating Telugu talent on the world stage.
