Rythu DISCOM to begin full operations from June 2

The Telangana government’s Rythu Power Distribution Company (Rythu DISCOM) is set to commence full operations from June 2, State Formation Day, following a key review meeting held on Thursday at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). The meeting focused on finalizing the structure, operations, and governance framework of the proposed company to ensure efficient and sustainable electricity distribution, particularly for the agricultural sector.

Senior officials of Rythu DISCOM, ASCI energy experts, and management professionals participated in detailed discussions covering asset segregation, human resource planning, consumer integration, operational systems, and governance. The transfer of assets from existing power distribution companies, employee allocation, recruitment, and training were key topics, with an emphasis on transparent and policy-compliant processes.

Consumer affairs were a major focus, including consolidating agricultural, irrigation, and other relevant consumers into Rythu DISCOM, creating an accurate consumer database, and streamlining service delivery. Operational discussions included strengthening field-level systems, enhancing technical support, and improving transparency and efficiency in electricity services.

Rythu DISCOM Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui, IAS, said asset segregation and human resource allocation are expected to be completed by the end of the month. He confirmed that consumer data integration and staff structuring will follow promptly, ensuring the company is fully ready to operate from June 2.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Rajkiran V. Bilolikar, Director, Centre for Energy Studies, ASCI; Chief Engineers P. Anand, A. Kamesh, Shravan Kumar; CGM Sudha Madhuri; and other ASCI officials.
