The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Andhra Pradesh government on a petition filed by Raj Kasireddy(Kasireddy Rajashekhar), the main accused in the AP liquor scam case. Kasireddy had approached the Supreme Court challenging the notice issued to him under section 160 of CrPC in connection with the liquor scam. The petition came up for hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday.

A bench of Justices J B Parthiwala and Mahadevan heard the matter. The petition stated that the AP CID police did not have the jurisdiction to issue notices to him as he was living in Telangana. Advocate Sriharsha argued on behalf of Raj Kasireddy. The court also issued notices to the AP government and the SIT and Principal Secretary of Excise department Mukesh Kumar Meena on the petition filed by Raj Kasireddy.

The apex court posted the matter for further hearing on May 13.  Kasireddy, who had come from Dubai, was arrested by the AP police in Hyderabad on 21st April and interrogated twice by the SIT officials. He was then produced in court and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Following this, Raj Kasireddy was shifted to Vijayawada district jail.
