In a significant development, senior IAS officer A. Vani Prasad has been appointed as Special Chief Secretary, Telangana government for the departments of Youth Affairs, Tourism, and Culture.
Born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Vani Prasad completed her entire education from LKG to post-graduation, in Telangana. Initially allocated to the Andhra Pradesh cadre by the Pratyush Sinha Committee following the state's bifurcation, she persistently argued for reallocation to Telangana, citing her lifelong ties to the region. She worked for sometime in Telangana during BRS regime, but was allocated to AP cadre.
After a prolonged legal battle, the Telangana High Court ruled in her favour, directing the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to reallocate her to the Telangana cadre. DoPT subsequently issued orders for her immediate relief from the Andhra Pradesh government and directed her to join Telangana without delay.
Prior to this move, Vani Prasad was serving as Special Chief Secretary in the Andhra Pradesh government. In Telangana, she takes over the Youth Affairs, Tourism, and Culture portfolios, with Jayesh Ranjan relinquishing additional charge of these departments while continuing in his roles for Sports and Metropolitan Area & Municipal Administration.
