The South Central Railway (SCR) has accelerated infrastructure development, adding 194.57 km of new, doubled and tripled railway lines in 2025–26 to ease congestion on its high-density network.
Already, the zone completed 325 track km electrification, boosting efficiency on key routes like Gudur–Balharshah, a crucial north-south freight and passenger corridor. The Rail line from Kazipet to Wadi Via. Secunderabad is also treated as a high density network.
Major works include new lines between Mallavaram–Kanigiri, doubling projects across multiple sections, and extensive tripling on busy stretches such as Mahabubabad–Nekkonda and Khammam–Dornakal. Addition of new lines will give boost to the remote villages across the Rail Line by bringing them into the Rail network.
SCR officials said the near-completion of the third line on the 700-km Grand Trunk route will significantly improve traffic flow. Bypass lines at Kazipet, Wadi and Peddapalli, along with a new ‘Y’ connectivity at Tandur, are expected to further reduce delays.
For 2026–27, SCR has received a Rs.13,026 crore capex, an 18.3% increase from last year, to sustain infrastructure growth. Towards New Lines Rs.1315 Cr allotted, for doubling Rs.5083 Cr for Track Renewals Rs.1908 cr, and for Traffic Facility Rs.403 cr, for Road Safety works Rs 683 crores has been allotted.
Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, SCR appreciated the collective efforts of the Officers and Staff of the Zone in enhancing the infrastructure, especially Construction, Engineering, Electrical, Signal & Telecom and Operating Departments.
