Metro India News | Hyderabad

The 90-day special drive initiated by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) with the goal of constructing soak pits and achieving a sewage overflow-free city concluded on Tuesday which has led to a 30% reduction in daily sewerage complaints.

The drive was launched on Gandhi Jayanti in 2024 and since then, continuous de-silting operations have been conducted in various parts of the city. As a result, desilting work has been completed on 2,200 kilometers of sewerage pipelines and 1.75 lakh manholes in 17,050 areas.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy congratulated the Water Board officials and staff for the success of this special drive. He expressed his happiness over solving long-term problems without any additional cost. Seeing positive results achieved in these 90 days, he has ordered the extension of the drive for another 90 days.

He suggested continuing the momentum in the coming days to undertake desilting work in the remaining pipelines and manholes. He emphasized the need to ensure that there are no waste materials in the sewerage pipelines and manholes by the monsoon season.

Managing Director Ashok Reddy stated that the special drive was initiated following the orders of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He praised the efforts of the Water Board officials and staff for the success of this special drive.

He expressed his delight over receiving praise from the Chief Minister for this drive. He assured that they would work with even greater capacity in the coming days.

Dashboard to monitor on daily basis

A special dashboard has been set up to monitor the special drive works on a daily basis. Complaints received by the MCC regarding sewerage overflow, contaminated water, silt on roads, etc., are recorded on Google Maps based on GPS using the respective CAN numbers.

This setup allows the number of complaints received and resolved in each area to be displayed as a bubble on the map. The size of the bubble changes based on the number of complaints received, allowing for problem resolution based on severity.

Additionally, the dashboard has been designed to upload details of the length of cleaned pipelines and the number of manholes cleaned so far, along with photos. They have also provided the facility to track the areas where silt carting vehicles are operating using GPS.

Proposals for the construction of new pipelines can also be recorded. All types of reports can be prepared and analyzed using this dashboard.

To implement this special drive effectively, sewerage complaints received over the past three years were analyzed. The main issues identified were blockages in consumer houses and sewerage overflow on roads. Since 60% of the daily complaints were related to these issues, they focused on resolving them.
