Shankaracharya receives death threats

Jyotirpeeth Shankaracharya Swami Shri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj has received death threats for his ongoing campaign to ban cow slaughter across India, as per his media manager Sanjay Pandey. For the past several years, the Shankaracharya has been spearheading the “Gau Mata – Rashtra Mata” movement with the objective of ending cow slaughter in the country.

On April 1, 2026, between 10:25 am and 10:35 am, the official Jyotirmath number was bombarded with text messages. After the number was blocked, two voice messages were received on April 6, warning that the Shankaracharya would be eliminated in the same manner as former MP Atiq Ahmed.

The voice messages have been preserved as evidence. The Shankaracharya’s office stated that legal proceedings will be initiated soon. The development has sparked concern among devotees and supporters, who have questioned whether peacefully advocating for cow protection should invite such grave threats. They appealed to all sections of society to remain united in support of the cow protection movement.
