The sacred city of Prayag is set to witness a spiritual surge as the annual Magh Mela prepares to welcome Jyotirmath Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati on January 13. The revered pontiff will arrive at the mela grounds and initiate a series of special religious rituals at his temporary camp along the Sangam banks.
During his stay, Shankaracharya will perform the unique ‘Gupt Navaratri’ ritual in the precincts of the sacred Lalita Devi area, known for its spiritual potency. Unlike the visible Navaratris, Gupt Navaratri—occurring in the months of Ashadha and Magh—is observed privately by devotees for the worship of Shakti, emphasizing meditation, tantra, and spiritual discipline.
Speaking to the media, the pontiff’s spokesperson, Sanjay Pandey, said the ritual will be dedicated to the nation’s welfare, the strengthening of Sanatan Dharma, and the well-being of all. The presence of Lalita Devi’s Shakti at Prayag will make the observance especially inspiring for spiritual seekers.
