Andhra Pradesh IT, Electronics, and Communications Minister Nara Lokesh on Friday inaugurated Sify Infinit Spaces Limited’s 50MW AI-powered Edge Data Center and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Visakhapatnam, marking a major step in transforming the city into India’s East Coast digital gateway.
Speaking at the event, Lokesh said Visakhapatnam would emerge as the economic capital of Andhra Pradesh and develop into a trillion-dollar economy by 2047. “Visakhapatnam is fast emerging as India’s global digital gateway on the eastern seaboard. Sify’s world-class infrastructure strengthens our position on the global technology map and catalyzes innovation, jobs, and investment. This is just the first step, with approvals for a mega data center already in place,” he said.
Developed by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, the 50MW AI Edge Data Center and Open CLS are being built on 3.6 acres allotted by the State Government with a phased investment of ₹1,500 crore. The project is expected to create over 1,000 jobs during construction and operations, focusing on locally trained technical talent.
The Open Cable Landing Station will anchor new submarine cable routes connecting India to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia, ensuring high-speed, low-latency data transmission and resilient connectivity. The Edge Data Center, designed for hyperscale growth, will interconnect through OPGW substations and feature dual fiber routes to guarantee carrier-neutral redundancy and seamless scalability.
Lokesh highlighted that Visakhapatnam’s rise would be faster than that of Hyderabad, stating, “What took Hyderabad 30 years to achieve, Vizag will accomplish in just ten. One State, One Capital, Visakhapatnam will be Andhra Pradesh’s economic engine.” He also reiterated the government’s commitment to balanced, decentralized development across regions.
Sify Chairman Raju Vegesna described the launch as a pivotal milestone in India’s digital transformation. “This marks a defining moment in Andhra Pradesh’s digital journey and India’s path toward technological self-reliance. We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and AI-led innovation at scale,” he said. The event was attended by APIIC Chairman Manthena Rama Raju, BJP State President P.V.N. Madhav, IT Secretary Katamneni Bhaskar, and senior executives from Sify.
