metro india news  I new delhi : Signify, a global lighting solutions provider, has launched an initiative to illuminate 100 villages along the Indo-Nepal border with energy-efficient LED streetlights, aiming to improve public safety, mobility and livelihood opportunities in remote border areas.

The project, being implemented in collaboration with Tarq Foundation under the guidance of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, seeks to illuminate key public spaces across villages spread along the 1,700-km Indo-Nepal border. Limited street lighting in these areas has long affected night-time movement, local commerce and community safety.

Through the installation of LED streetlights, the initiative aims to illuminate roads, market areas, school routes and common village spaces, enabling safer movement after dusk and supporting evening economic activity. The improved lighting is expected to particularly benefit women, children and elderly residents by enhancing their sense of security.

According to the project partners, villages were identified following on-ground assessments that focused on footfall patterns, safety concerns and direct community feedback, ensuring lighting infrastructure reaches high-impact locations.

Signify said the initiative is part of its rural lighting programme focused on sustainable and long-term community development. Tarq Foundation noted that the effort reflects everyday needs of border communities, where proper lighting plays a practical role in protection, access to education and livelihoods.
