Political circles in Telangana are abuzz over the muted response of Congress leaders after Kalvakuntla Kavitha used unusually harsh language against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during the launch of her new political party. Analysts say the silence from the ruling party has raised more questions than answers, especially given the scale and tone of her remarks.

Though Kavitha is no longer positioned as a conventional opposition figure and has now announced a fresh regional party, her public criticism of the Chief Minister at a massive gathering of supporters was expected to trigger strong counterattacks from the Congress camp. Instead, apart from a measured reaction from PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, there was little visible outrage.

Political observers point out that neither the Congress party machinery nor ministers in the state cabinet issued sharp condemnations against Kavitha’s statements. This absence of an aggressive response has led to speculation about whether internal political calculations are at play.

Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomed the emergence of new parties in a democracy and congratulated Kavitha on launching her political party. At the same time, he dismissed her comments against Revanth Reddy as baseless. However, beyond that, the ruling party did not escalate the issue further, which has become a talking point in political discussions.

The silence of cabinet colleagues has also drawn attention. Analysts argue that ministers would normally be expected to defend the Chief Minister in such circumstances. Their lack of public reaction has fueled doubts over the extent of support Revanth Reddy enjoys within his own team.

Adding to the intrigue are reports and political whispers suggesting that Kavitha’s rebellion against BRS may have unfolded under the strategic guidance of Revanth Reddy himself. If such claims hold any truth, some believe that could explain why ministers chose not to engage with her criticism.

There is also speculation that sections within Congress view Kavitha’s exit from BRS as politically advantageous, weakening their rival while indirectly benefiting the ruling party. Some analysts suggest ministers may have preferred to stay silent, seeing strategic value in her distancing herself from BRS leadership.

During the public meeting announcing the Telangana Rashtra Sena Party, Kavitha launched a blistering attack on the Chief Minister. Referring to him as a “Karkotaka” and comparing him to “Hitler,” she accused the government of insensitivity and injustice.

She cited the demolition of houses in Velugumatla, Khammam, despite all permissions being in place, alleging that the resulting stress caused a pregnant woman to suffer an abortion. Kavitha said the cries of the affected father still echoed in her ears.

She also referred to an incident in Kummera village, where a two-month-old infant reportedly died, alleging that no case had been filed so far. Since the Home portfolio is also under the Chief Minister, she questioned his priorities and described the administration as one that must be challenged.

Kavitha further criticised the Chief Minister in his role as Education Minister, claiming he had failed to speak or respond adequately on key issues. She argued that these failures justified her repeated use of strong labels against him.

Responding to her speech, Mahesh Kumar Goud said that while democracy welcomes new political parties, Kavitha herself had been a partner in what he described as BRS “loot” from 2014 to 2023. He questioned why she had not explained her own role during that period.

He added that her criticism of a Chief Minister who, according to him, was working for women’s empowerment was meaningless. He said the government was functioning in line with people’s aspirations and that governance was centered on welfare and inclusion.

In a pointed remark, he also questioned whether Kavitha had failed to notice the kind of people surrounding former Chief Minister KCR during the BRS decade in power. He concluded by saying political ambition is natural, but excessive ambition can be dangerous.

With no major counter from the Congress leadership beyond this statement, the political silence itself has become a subject of widespread discussion—leaving many to wonder what lies beneath the surface of Telangana’s evolving power equations.
