Principal Secretary of the State Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department S. Suresh Kumar said on Thursday that jute bags stalls are being set up to make the state secretariat single-use plastic-free from the 15th of this month by replacing single-use plastic with eco-friendly alternatives. He inaugurated jute bags stalls set up under the aegis of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Muncipal Areas(MEPMA) to promote the use of jute bags in place of single-use plastic bags in the secretariat.
Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar said that in response to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's call to make Andhra Pradesh a single-use plastic-free state by June 5 next year, steps have been taken to encourage the use of steel bottles and jute bags in secretariat. For that an immediate ban on sale, distribution and use of single-use plastic items such as plastic bottles, plastic cups, plates, stickers, sachets and plastic carry bags is being implemented in the secretariat and steps are being taken to promote the use of recyclable and biodegradable goods in their place, he said.

The Principal Secretary also informed that reverse osmosis drinking water plants are being set up and reusable stainless steel water bottles are being supplied free of cost to the secretariat employees.
