The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of adulterated ghee used in the iconic Tirumala Sri Vari Laddu prasadam has stepped up its investigation, bringing former TTD Chairman and YSRCP leader Y.V. Subba Reddy under scrutiny. SIT officials questioned him on Thursday at his Hyderabad residence, after he expressed inability to appear in Vijayawada where initial summons were issued.

Subba Reddy, who headed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board during the previous YSRCP government, is being questioned over procurement processes, supply contracts, and administrative decisions made during his tenure. Investigators are said to be seeking clarity on the companies entrusted with ghee supply for laddu preparation and the terms of agreements finalised under his chairmanship.

The SIT has already arrested and interrogated Subba Reddy’s personal assistant, Appanna, who reportedly provided crucial information pertaining to supply chains and decision-making procedures. Sources say his statements have formed the basis for the current round of questioning.

With the probe now entering a sensitive phase, the developments have raised speculation over potential arrests, as the SIT works to ascertain accountability in a case that has caused public outrage over the sanctity and quality of Tirumala’s revered prasadam.
