Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Vikarabad MLA, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, has issued legal notices to former Vikarabad MLA and BRS district president Methuku Anand, seeking a public apology and compensation of Rs 10 crore for alleged defamatory statements made during recent media interactions.
According to the legal notice sent through his counsel, Gaddam Prasad Kumar stated that Methuku Anand, during press conferences held on January 14 and January 19, 2026, made baseless, false, and defamatory allegations that caused grave damage to his personal reputation, public standing, and mental peace. The notice asserts that these remarks were made irresponsibly and with malicious intent, amounting to character assassination and an attempt to undermine the dignity of a constitutional office.
In the January 19 media interaction, Methuku Anand allegedly accused the Speaker of accepting bribes amounting to hundreds of crores in connection with decisions related to the disqualification of legislators. The legal notice terms these allegations as entirely fabricated and a direct insult to the highest constitutional position within the legislative system. It further states that such comments amount to contempt of constitutional authority and are aimed at eroding public trust in democratic institutions.
The notice also refers to claims allegedly made by Methuku Anand suggesting that the Vikarabad Municipal Council was manipulated for personal gain, which Gaddam Prasad Kumar has categorically denied, describing them as concocted stories without any factual basis.
Earlier, Methuku Anand allegedly used derogatory language, referring to the Speaker in a demeaning manner and accusing him of collecting bribes from government officials, employees, and contractors. The notice states that these remarks were not only defamatory but also deeply hurtful on a personal level.
Such acts, it notes, are punishable under Sections 499 and 500 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deal with defamation.
Highlighting his journey from grassroots public life to the office of Speaker and his continuous efforts towards addressing public issues and securing development funds for the Vikarabad constituency, Gaddam Prasad Kumar stated that the allegations were intended solely to tarnish his image.
The notice demands that Methuku Anand withdraw his statements, issue an unconditional public apology through the media within seven days, and pay Rs. 10 crore as compensation for mental agony and reputational damage. Failing compliance, Gaddam Prasad Kumar has warned that appropriate legal action will be initiated through the courts.
