After 7.5-hour SIT quiz, KTR cries vendetta

Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President K T Rama Rao appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana Police on Friday for questioning in the alleged phone tapping case from the previous BRS regime. The interrogation, held at Jubilee Hills Police Station, lasted over seven hours, marking a significant development in the ongoing probe into unauthorized surveillance activities.  In a press conference after the session, KTR strongly denied any involvement in illegal or immoral activities during his tenure, calling the investigation a “diversionary tactic” by the Congress Govt.  He said the past two years had been marked by “one drama after another” and described the probes as “time-pass cinema stories.”

KTR said he fully cooperated with the SIT, answering questions for nearly 7.5 hours, but questioned who was responsible for alleged “character assassination” through selective media leaks. He accused the government of running a smear campaign, with unsubstantiated allegations amplified by certain media outlets and social media platforms, and challenged the police on accountability for such leaks.

He urged media houses to verify facts before publishing, saying false narratives hurt party workers, supporters and public trust. Launching a counterattack, KTR accused the Revanth Reddy government of corruption, referring to alleged irregularities in Singareni Collieries tenders, land grabs linked to industrial area conversions in Hyderabad, misuse of public funds and continued phone tapping of opposition leaders and journalists.

Reiterating that the BRS would cooperate with any lawful inquiry, KTR said the party would also continue to expose government failures and corruption. He dismissed reports of cross-examinations with others as fabricated leaks, clarifying that only he and police officials were present. Rejecting KTR’s allegations, Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar said there was no political harassment and asserted that investigations were being conducted strictly in accordance with the law.
