Andhra Pradesh Chief Whip G.V. Anjaneyulu announced that sports competitions for MLAs and MLCs will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, Vijayawada, starting March 18. Speaking to the media on Sunday after inspecting the stadium, he highlighted the revival of this tradition under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, which had been discontinued during the previous government’s tenure.
The event aims to provide a break from daily stress and promote camaraderie among legislators. Competitions in 12 sports, including cricket, tennis, badminton, kabaddi, volleyball, and tug-of-war, will take place on March 18 and 19. Winners will be honored at a cultural event and budget dinner at Haritha Berm Park on March 20.
Anjaneyulu emphasized the government’s commitment to developing sports infrastructure in every constituency and prioritizing tourism and sports. He also expressed the goal of producing Olympic medalists from the state. AP Government Whip Yarlagadda Venkat Rao praised the revival of this decade-old tradition and urged opposition members to actively participate in addressing constituency issues. The event reflects the government’s focus on fostering sports and ethical values among citizens. Senior officials, including APLA Secretary Prasanna Kumar, attended the meeting.
