Sustainable development in India cannot be achieved without strengthening agriculture and ensuring greater social responsibility from businesses, said Prof. S. Srinivasa Murthy, Director of the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE). The professor was speaking as chief guest at the valedictory session of a two-day national conference on "Business Transformation for Sustainable Development" organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Business Management at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) here in Jubilee Hills.
Prof. Murthy stressed the need for businesses to integrate sustainability into their core operations in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Highlighting the vision of "Viksit Bharat", he said while India has made significant strides in the service sector, manufacturing still requires stronger growth. He noted that agriculture continues to be the backbone of the Indian economy and improving farm productivity is essential for achieving true sustainable development.
