Eligibility criteria for ‘Talli Ki Vandanam’
Marking the first anniversary of the NDA coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu formally launched the ambitious “Talli Ki Vandanam” scheme — a flagship welfare programme that extends financial support to all school-going children through their mothers, regardless of how many children a family has.
Terming it the most crucial among the “Super Six” guarantees, the Chief Minister said, “We promised that Talli Ki Vandanam would be extended to every child, and we have fulfilled it. A total of 67.27 lakh children across the state will benefit, with Rs.10,091 crore allocated for this purpose.”
Out of the total, Rs.8,745 crore is earmarked directly for mothers, while Rs.1,346 crore will be used for school development activities. This is a significant jump from the previous YSRCP-led administration’s Amma Vodi scheme, which covered only 42.6 lakh students at a cost of Rs.5,540 crore.
The Chief Minister announced that cash transfers would begin today, where all eligible mothers will receive Rs.13,000 per child directly into their bank accounts, while schools will receive Rs. 2,000 per student for maintenance purposes.
The government estimates 18.55 lakh mothers with one child, 14.55 lakh mothers with two children, 2.1 lakh mothers with three children, and 2,053 mothers with four children. In a notable inclusion, the scheme also covers 76,000 students studying in private unaided schools. For orphaned children or those without a mother, the amount will be transferred to the father's or guardian’s account, or directly managed by district collectors, depending on circumstances.
A preliminary beneficiary list will be displayed at village and ward secretariats, and citizens have until June 26 to file any objections. The final list will be released on June 30.
Reflecting on the coalition’s first year in power, CM Naidu described it as a step toward responsible governance. “We inherited a state in financial and administrative disarray. Experts doubted our recovery, but we are proving them wrong,” he said. In one year, Andhra Pradesh secured investment proposals worth Rs. 9.5 lakh crore, expected to generate 8.5 lakh jobs. Major corporations like TCS, LG, ArcelorMittal, and NTPC Green have committed to projects in the state, the CM said.
Under the “double engine” government — with Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chandrababu in the state — key infrastructure projects have accelerated. These include reviving the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, securing the long-awaited Railway Zone, and fast-tracking the Bhogapuram International Airport.
Naidu took aim at opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for “siding with anti-social elements” and “misleading farmers for political stunts.” He condemned Reddy’s visit to families involved in ganja smuggling and a rally in Prakasam district under the pretext of supporting tobacco growers.
He also lashed out at the YSRCP-linked Sakshi channel for airing derogatory remarks about women from Amaravati, warning of strict action against those trying to disrupt peace or malign the state's reputation. “I have eradicated factionism, extremism, and communal violence before. I will do it again if needed,” he asserted.
Chandrababu concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment, “We promised to create wealth and share it equitably. That is what we are doing — raising revenues and reinvesting them into welfare and development. The people of Andhra Pradesh deserve nothing less.”
