10-12-2025 12:00:00 AM

Tata Power has commissioned the 400 kV Koteshwar–Rishikesh transmission line, which will transmit 1,000 MW of hydropower from Uttarakhand to northern states.

The line will carry electricity from the Tehri–Koteshwar hydroelectric complex to Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and the union territory of Chandigarh. It is intended to support the regional grid and improve energy distribution across these areas.

The transmission line passes through New Tehri and Dehradun districts, crossing challenging Himalayan terrain and reaching altitudes above 1,816 meters.

The project was executed under NRSS XXXVI Transmission Ltd (NRSS), which was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte Limited, a joint venture promoted by Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and global investors. The commissioning marks the operational start of the line, allowing hydropower from the Tehri–Koteshwar complex to flow into multiple northern states.
