Seeks immediate stoppage of  TG20 League

Metro India News | Hyderabad

The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has submitted an urgent representation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Chairman IPL Governing Council and CEO BCCI, seeking immediate intervention to stop/hold the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s (HCA) announced “TG20 League (purportedly a Premier League) which is being pursued in blatant disregard of binding BCCI directions and ongoing judicial proceedings.

TCA stated that HCA’s unilateral logo launch, franchise EOI process and announcement of a so-called Governing Council, without consultation or collaboration with TCA, amounts to a willful violation of the BCCI Order dated 11.07.2021 and a deliberate attempt to create a fait accompli while W.P. No. 3678/2023 (TCA vs BCCI & HCA) remains subjudice before the Bombay High Court for final orders.

TCA further cautioned that HCA’s attempt to enter Telangana district cricket through this purported league appears to be a calculated move to unlawfully encroach upon the established district ecosystem developed and administered by TCA over the last twelve years, raising serious concerns of governance abuse, financial irregularities and suppression of deserving grassroots talent.

TCA has pointed out that HCA’s TG20 is prima facie an unapproved tournament in violation of the BCCI Constitution Rules 28, 30 and 31, and also violates the mandatory BCCI Advisory for hosting T20 State Cricket Association Tournaments, which expressly prohibits conducting such tournaments during the IPL window, including the mandatory 15-day buffer period before and after IPL. TCA emphasized that under Rule 30, prior written permission of BCCI is compulsory, and under Rule 31, participation in unapproved tournaments attracts strict disciplinary consequences on participating players and officials including suspension and stoppage of financial benefits to hosting Association.

TCA warned that HCA’s actions recklessly expose young Telangana cricketers, coaches, umpires and officials to serious career-threatening penalties, and undermine the integrity, discipline and uniform governance framework of the BCCI. TCA asserted that HCA’s conduct is not merely irregular but reflects institutional bad faith, procedural illegality and ethical misconduct, aimed at unlawfully capturing Telangana district cricket through commercial spectacle rather than genuine development.

TCA has alerted BCCI to immediately restrain HCA from proceeding with TG20, demand production of prior written approvals and AGM authorization, declare the league unapproved if such approvals do not exist, and ensure that no state-wide league in the name of Telangana is permitted unless conducted through a transparent, inclusive and legally compliant process ensuring rightful participation of TCA district cricketers and adequate representation of TCA in the governing council. TCA stated that failure of urgent intervention will compel it to initiate appropriate legal proceedings to prevent irreparable prejudice to Telangana cricket and to safeguard the rule of law in cricket administration.

“Those entrusted with upholding the law—whether in the judiciary, law enforcement, or cricket administration—are expected to ensure accountability and fairness. Yet, the same individuals now appear on stage alongside those they are meant to investigate or regulate. There can be no clearer example of conflict of interest and collusion than this controversial TG20 league, which seems to operate in disregard of established norms and oversight.”
