Telangana emerging as major data centre hub: Nikhil Chakravarthi

Telangana is positioning itself as India’s next major data centre and digital infrastructure hub with a strong focus on AI, cloud infrastructure, sustainability and industrial growth. The vision was highlighted at the 10th ASSOCHAM Smart Datacenters & Cloud Infrastructure Summit 2026 held in Hyderabad.

Addressing the summit, Nikhil Chakravarthi J (IA&AS), Commissioner and Director of Industries, Government of Telangana, said the state is committed to creating world-class infrastructure, reliable power supply, sustainable water resources and a strong innovation ecosystem to support the growing data centre economy. He said Telangana aims to build a long-term technology and manufacturing ecosystem aligned with India’s digital future and Vision 2047 goals.

Dr. Lovneesh Chanana of SAP Asia Pte Ltd and Chair of ASSOCHAM IT/ITeS Council said AI-driven enterprises will shape the next decade and states like Telangana are well positioned to benefit from this transformation. Jatinder Singh Pabla of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India said Telangana’s policy clarity and infrastructure readiness provide a major advantage for AI and data centre growth.

Amit Agrawal of Techno Digital, Sunny Tathele of AdaniConneX, Sharad Agarwal of Sify Infinit Spaces, Chandra Shekar Sarma Garimela of CtrlS and Rambabu Boorugu of Pranava Group also highlighted Hyderabad’s growing role in India’s digital economy. Navin Mittal, IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Telangana, said the state recorded nearly 10 percent growth in peak power demand this year and is strengthening its energy ecosystem to support future digital infrastructure and AI-driven industries.
