In a major push to strengthen the public education system, the Government of Telangana will establish 571 new government schools this academic year in rural and urban areas where the student population exceeds 20. Announcing this during a review meeting with Education Department officials at ICCC on Friday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the state is committed to ensuring quality education for every child enrolled in government institutions.
The Chief Minister underscored the state’s resolve to provide all necessary infrastructure, teacher training, and support services to elevate learning outcomes. He emphasized that the government would not hesitate to invest in the education sector to meet its objectives.
Highlighting the need for systematic reforms, Revanth Reddy directed officials to focus on language proficiency and skill-building from the high school level itself. He said early exposure to vocational and skill-based training would empower students to succeed in their chosen fields in the future.
The Chief Minister also instructed that schools functioning under different categories — SC, ST, BC, and Minority Welfare Departments — up to the Intermediate level be rationalized to ensure optimum student strength in each institution. He stressed that every school should have a defined minimum number of students to enhance operational efficiency and academic standards. Considering Telangana’s rapid urbanization, Revanth urged the Education Department to coordinate with the Municipal Administration Department to identify available spaces in HMDA and municipal layouts for setting up schools equipped with necessary amenities.
Acknowledging the growing popularity of Gurukul institutions due to quality food, uniforms, and study materials, CM Revanth Reddy suggested a study on extending these facilities to day scholars in the same schools to ensure parity and wider access.
He further emphasized the need for value-based counselling for students, to help them understand their role and responsibility towards family and society. Such guidance, he noted, would aid in shaping emotionally strong and socially responsible citizens.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Minister’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Government Advisor Keshava Rao, Special Secretary to CM Ajit Reddy, CM’s Secretary Manick Raj, Education Secretary Yogita Rana, Commissioner of Technical Education Sridevasena, and Director of School Education Narasimha Reddy.
