Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu has reiterated the State government’s firm demand that the union government take up the revival of the defunct Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad.

The Minister recalled that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and he himself had on several occasions personally appealed to Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for the revival of this major industrial unit.

At a high-level meeting in the Secretariat with Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao, CCI CMD Sanjay Banga, Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar, and senior officials, proposals for the plant’s restoration were reviewed. The CCI management indicated that around Rs 2,000 crore would be required to modernise the plant with advanced machinery. Once operational, the unit could generate employment for nearly 3,000 people.

Sridhar Babu underlined that the Adilabad district, being a backward region, stands to benefit immensely from the plant’s revival. He stressed that such a major industry must remain under the union government’s control and categorically opposed any move towards privatisation or disinvestment. He also informed that the CCI has sought the State government’s proposals, and these will be submitted shortly.

The Minister further noted that over 2,000 acres of high-quality limestone deposits are available in the region, ensuring the plant’s viability.

The meeting was attended by Mines and Geology principal secretary N. Sridhar, mines director Velluru Kranti, TGIIC MD Shashank Tandur, CCI Plant GM Sharad Kumar, CCI Regional Manager Umesh Kumar Singh, and former union minister Venugopalachari, who also shared his inputs.
