Dr. Ram Muppidi, Senior Faculty of Footwear Design at FDDI, along with his team, has achieved a significant milestone with the publication of his 21st and 22nd design patents by the Indian Patent Office. The first patent, under Application No. 473355-001 and classified under Class 11-02, relates to Table Top Décor, while the second, registered under Application No. 481997-001 in Class 03-01, covers a Leather Handbag Design. Both patents were officially published on January 16, 2026, in the Patent Journal and recognized by IP India.
Dr. Muppidi collaborated with several co-authors on these innovations. The Table Top Décor patent includes contributions from Krishnakumar Yadav of Nirma University and Dr. Nagajanu Surepallu, Faculty of Art & Culture Education, Ganapavaram. The Leather Handbag Design patent was co-authored by Dr. Kesaboina Murali of Woxsen University and Mattagunja Anirudh, a final-year FDDI student in Hyderabad.
Speaking to Metro India, Dr. Muppidi said that such patents are milestones reflecting creativity, research-driven innovation, and national recognition. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness about intellectual property among students, artisans, and young designers to protect their work and contribute to India’s creative economy.
