Continuing the bird walks, the Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) organized a ‘Bird Walk’ at the Forest Trek Park, Manchirevula on Sunday with 14 bird watchers and bird enthusiasts from various parts of Hyderabad participaing in the event. Participants were briefed by K. Suman, Project Manager, Eco-Tourism and Naturalist Aparanjani, the ecological significance, and the various bird species that inhabit the area. A Birds Pocket Guide, developed by TGFDC, was also distributed to help identify bird species during the walk.
Participants identified birds using the guide, while experts explained the techniques of bird watching, methods of identification, and the unique sounds and calls made by different birds.
Some of the notable bird species sighted during the walk included: Shikra, Indian Peafowl (male and female), Black Drongo, Green Bee-eater, Kingfisher, Spot-billed Duck, Painted Stork, Golden Oriole, Asian Koel, Indian Myna, Coppersmith Barbet, Red-vented Bulbul, Swallow, Red-wattled Lapwing, Indian Silverbill, Grey Francolin.
Speaking at the event, L. Ranjith Nayak, Executive Director, Eco-Tourism, TGFDC, emphasized the crucial role birds play in maintaining ecological balance, aiding in seed dispersal and contributing to biodiversity. He highlighted the need to raise public awareness about bird conservation and environmental education, warning that without active efforts, future generations might only see birds in museums.
