Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao strongly criticised Union Minister Kishan Reddy's derogatory remarks regarding the urea shortage in Telangana. He advised the Union Minister to cease his negative campaign against the state government and instead clarify the realities surrounding the urea shortage to the people.
In a statement released on Sunday, Tummala Nageswara Rao noted that Kishan Reddy acknowledged that the urea shortage resulted from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine; however, he continued to place blame on the Telangana government regarding the supply issues, demonstrating a contradictory stance on the situation.
Tummala emphasised that the urea shortage in the country stemmed from the central government's negligence, which obscured the truth about the issues related to urea imports and domestic production. He also highlighted that the government failed to adequately assess the demand for fertilizers.
"The people of Telangana elected Kishan Reddy, which led to his appointment as a Union Minister. In this capacity, he has a responsibility to proactively address the urea issue faced by farmers in Telangana. Should he provide an additional supply of urea, the state government would convey its appreciation on behalf of the agricultural community. However, failing to take action while obscuring the truth and making political accusations regarding the urea shortage—attributable to the Central government’s negligence—raises questions," Minister Tummala said.
Tummala Nageswara Rao urged Kishan Reddy, representing the farmers of Telangana, to facilitate the prompt delivery of 50,000 tonnes of urea.
