In a move to modernize power management, Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) is set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the distribution level to monitor electricity demand, supply, and interruptions in real-time. CMD Musharraf Faruqui, IAS, who chaired a review meeting with Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers at the company’s headquarters in Mint Compound, emphasized the use of technology for proactive service delivery.

The AI-based system will automatically record disruptions and alert field engineers, enabling swift redressal and efficient maintenance. Currently, 6,885 of the total 8,681 feeders are being monitored through the Feeder Outage Management System (FOMS), and steps are being taken to integrate the remaining feeders soon.

The CMD directed daily monitoring of power supply at the Distribution Transformer (DTR) level, shifting the focus from feeder-level oversight to more localized problem detection. Engineers were asked to identify recurring issues at specific feeders and DTRs, conduct site visits, and take corrective action.

Acknowledging rising electricity demand in Greater Hyderabad, the CMD instructed officials to submit detailed reports by August 15 on preparedness and infrastructure planning for the upcoming summer. He also reinforced that new connections and other services must adhere strictly to Standards of Performance timelines, ensuring no delay or consumer grievances. As part of a new outreach initiative, officials will now interact with consumers every Wednesday in bastis and colonies to address grievances directly and improve trust in power services.
