Mancherial police arrested two brothers from Maharashtra who turned to theft due to heavy losses in gambling. Mancherial DCP Eggadi Bhaskar revealed the details during a press conference held at the DCP office on Monday evening. On April 22, unknown persons broke into the house of retired Singareni employee Muddam Nagayya in Gautameshwar Colony, Mancherial, when the family was away and committed a major theft. Acting on the complaint, police formed two special teams and cracked the case within 12 days.

The accused were identified as brothers Ashish Srinivas and Akash, residents of Chandrapur in Maharashtra. During interrogation, police found that the duo, who were addicted to gambling and had suffered huge losses in betting, resorted to thefts. Using technical intelligence, the police arrested them and recovered 311 grams of gold ornaments and around 1 kg of silver items from their possession. The accused had pledged another 67 grams of gold ornaments at a Muthoot Finance branch in Chandrapur and obtained a gold loan of Rs 6,76,000.

They also spent the Rs 1.50 lakh cash stolen from the victim’s house on gambling. DCP Bhaskar said that efforts are underway to recover the gold items pledged at the finance company. The accused will be produced in court soon. The DCP appealed to the public to remain vigilant during the summer season, especially when leaving the town or going on vacation. He advised people to take proper precautions to safeguard valuables in their homes.
