UK to halt diesel, jet fuel Russian imports by 2027

Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty said the new rules would prevent refined oil made from Russian crude from entering the UK via third nations while maintaining domestic energy stability.

London: The UK government has set Jan 1, 2027, as the deadline to end imports of diesel and jet fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries, as part of its sanctions regime against Moscow, BBC reported on Saturday.

Trade Minister Chris Bryant said the move sends a “clear signal” Britain will continue to increase pressure on Russia. The temporary licence allowing such imports will be reviewed every two weeks and could be withdrawn before the deadline, he added.

The measure follows criticism of the UK’s decision to permit limited imports of fuels refined from Russian oil due to concerns over global energy supplies.

However, campaigner Sir Bill Browder criticised the decision, saying it would continue to provide Russia with billions of pounds to support its war effort in Ukraine.
