Union Secretary reviews centrally sponsored welfare schemes in Telangana

Union Secretary for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Sudhansh Pant, together with Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh, conducted an extensive review meeting on Monday at the Secretariat with senior officials from the state government to evaluate the execution of centrally sponsored schemes.

The meeting focused on key welfare initiatives aimed at the upliftment of marginalised communities, including pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, the protection of civil rights framework, construction of SC/BC hostels, comprehensive rehabilitation of transgender persons, and the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).

Speaking on the occasion, Union Secretary Sudhansh Pant appreciated the State government’s efforts in effectively implementing centrally sponsored schemes.

He noted that while significant progress has been achieved, there remains scope for further improvement to ensure deeper outreach and impact. Sudhansh Pant  emphasised that sustained and consistent efforts are essential for the socio-economic upliftment of marginalised and vulnerable sections of society.

The Union Secretary assured that the Central government would address all pending issues raised by the State and expressed confidence that enhanced financial support would be extended in the future, enabling broader coverage and greater benefits to eligible beneficiaries.

He also appreciated the progressive initiative of the Telangana Parental Support Act, highlighting it as a noteworthy step towards social protection.

Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh presented a detailed overview of the status of various centrally sponsored schemes in the State. He outlined achievements, ongoing initiatives, and implementation strategies, while also bringing to the attention of the Union Secretary several policy and procedural matters requiring support and clarification from the Centre. Principal Secretary Finance Sandeep Kumar Sultania, along with senior officials from SC, BC and Disabled Welfare departments and other concerned departments, participated in the meeting.
