US envoy gor urges B’desh to join Pax Silica Initiative

Dhaka: US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor on Saturday urged Bang­ladesh to join the US-led Pax Silica initiative during talks with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on bilateral ties, trade and investment.

Gor said Bangladesh had potential to join the global economic security alliance focused on critical minerals, energy, semiconductors and artificial intelligence infrastructure, Dhaka Tribune reported. Pax Silica aims to reduce reliance on Chinese technology dominance.

Gor, also US Ambassador to India, said the two nations had opportunities to boost economic cooperation. Rah­man sought US investment in IT, warehousing and agricultural sectors. They also discussed the Rohingya crisis, with Gor calling for a swift and sustainable political solution.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christen­sen and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman attended the meeting along with other senior officials.

Gor, India Envoy meet

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor in Dhaka on Friday and discussed issues of mutu­al regional interest. arrived in Dhaka on Thursday on his maiden official visit. —PTI
