Mumbai , July 8 :

Vedanta Power Limited reported power sales of 5,225 million units in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 38% from 3,786 million units in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. On a sequential basis, however, power sales declined 6% from 5,530 million units in Q4 FY26. The company said the quarter covered both pre- and post-demerger periods, following the demerger of Vedanta Power from Vedanta Limited during Q1 FY27.

It noted that comparisons with previous periods should be viewed in this context. Meenakshi Energy recorded the strongest growth among the company’s generating assets during the quarter. Power sales increased to 1,350 million units, up 245% from 391 million units in Q1 FY26 and 16% higher than 1,161 million units in the previous quarter.

Vedanta Power said the year-ago performance reflected operations from a single 300 MW unit, while the latest quarter benefited from the plant’s expanded operational capacity of 1,000 MW. Power sales from the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant stood at 2,723 million units, compared with 2,715 million units in Q1 FY26. Sequentially, sales increased 14% from 2,386 million units.

The plant’s availability factor was 86% during the quarter, compared with 90% a year earlier and 77% in Q4 FY26. According to the company, its power purchase agreement with the Punjab government provides compensation based on a normative plant availability of 80%, and the plant remained above this threshold during the quarter. The Sakti Thermal Plant reported power sales of 465 million units during Q1 FY27, compared with 1,087 million units in Q4 FY26. The plant had recorded no sales in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Vedanta Power attributed the sequential decline to lower plant availability following a boiler incident on April 14, 2026.
