In an effort to set a new world record, the Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to host International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 at Visakhapatnam’s iconic RK Beach, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to take part in the grand event.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who conducted a high-level review meeting in Visakhapatnam on Monday, laid out a detailed blueprint for the Yoga Day arrangements, aiming to make it a global spectacle. He directed officials to ensure flawless execution, emphasizing that the state must showcase its ability to deliver a record-setting event in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.

The state aims to bring together five lakh participants along the beach stretch and surrounding areas in Visakhapatnam to perform yoga simultaneously. In total, the government estimates that up to two crore people across Andhra Pradesh will participate in International Yoga Day, making it one of the largest coordinated events in the state’s history. To manage the logistics, the government is establishing 326 designated compartments where participants will perform yogasanas in a synchronized manner. Each compartment will be assigned specific individuals, with coordination planned through 607 Urban Secretariats, along with additional personnel from rural secretariats.

Despite no immediate threat of rain, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for weather-proof alternatives and robust contingency measures. “There must be no lapses, no oversights,” he stressed. CM Naidu instructed officials to ensure hassle-free arrangements for parking, sanitation, and toilet facilities, and to provide clear pre-event guidance to all participants, including those traveling from outside the city.

Transport logistics will also be carefully managed — each bus bringing participants will be required to have two drivers, and arrival timings must be precisely coordinated to ensure all attendees are in place by 6:00 to 6:30 AM.

CM Naidu also proposed a Yoga Day Declaration, emphasizing that yoga should become a part of routine lifestyle and not remain confined to a ceremonial practice. “Let’s make this event not just a celebration, but a declaration of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to holistic wellness,” he said.
