Recently, doctors from Medicover hospital successfully treated 84-year-old Sujatha, who had been suffering from chronic low back pain for nearly ten years. Over the past month, her condition worsened significantly, leaving her unable to sit, turn in bed, or walk independently. Medical evaluation revealed advanced degenerative lumbar spine disease with severe spinal canal stenosis and significant ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, causing compression of the spinal nerves.

After extensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary team, the team decided to proceed with lumbar decompression surgery. The surgery was successful, and the patient showed steady recovery. Within days, she regained the ability to sit, stand, and walk independently, with significant reduction in pain and improved mobility. Dr. Ramesh Shighakolli, Senior Spine Surgeon, said that with modern anesthesia techniques, advanced surgical methods, and improved perioperative care, spine surgery can be safely performed even in elderly patients when appropriately selected.
