A two-year-old child has made a remarkable recovery at Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad, after undergoing advanced neuro-endoscopic surgery for complex (multiloculated) hydrocephalus, one of the most challenging neurological conditions in children.
The child exhibited the rare Bobble-Head Doll Syndrome, characterized by continuous nodding movements. Initially dismissed as habitual behavior, further evaluation revealed multiloculated hydrocephalus, where brain fluid pockets are isolated, causing pressure buildup and developmental delays.
Using neuro-endoscopy with navigation, the neurosurgery team carefully opened the isolated cavities, unified them into a single functional chamber, and restored cerebrospinal fluid circulation. A programmable VP shunt was placed for long-term management.
‘Complex hydrocephalus requires meticulous planning and the right use of modern technology,’ said Dr. Ramesh Shighakolli, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon. ‘With precision, even the most difficult cases can have excellent outcomes.’ Post-surgery, the child shows improved alertness, recognition of parents, and steady developmental progress, highlighting Medicover Hospitals Secunderabad’s expertise in advanced pediatric neurosurgery.
