Zoo marks environment day with awareness events

The Nehru Zoological Park celebrated World Environment Day on Thursday with a series of awareness programmes including ‘Swachhta Zoo’, a webinar, and a snake awareness show. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Elusing Meru and Zoo Parks Director Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath participated in the events and planted saplings. Elusing Meru commended the zoo for its conservation efforts and awareness initiatives, highlighting its success in breeding endangered species such as Asiatic Lions and Royal Bengal Tigers.

Save Energy, save environment: TGSPDCL CMD’s call 

TGSPDCL CMD Sri Musharraf Faruqui, IAS, urged citizens to adopt energy-saving habits on World Environment Day. He emphasized switching to LED lights, unplugging idle electronics, using BEE-rated appliances, optimizing AC settings, leveraging solar energy, and maximizing natural light. These simple practices help conserve electricity, reduce carbon emissions, and protect the environment for future generations.

Tree relocated to ease traffic, promote green heritage

On World Environment Day, a Peltophorum tree causing congestion near Manju Theatre, Secunderabad, was relocated to Mehaboob College premises by ACP G Shankar Raju and activists. The initiative supported by GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan, highlights environmental stewardship and urban sustainability, ensuring safety while preserving green cover. A mango sapling was also planted to mark the occasion.

Telangana vows to end plastic pollution: Konda Surekha

On World Environment Day, Minister Konda Surekha reaffirmed Telangana’s commitment to eliminating plastic pollution. She launched the TSPCB’s campaign, stressed adopting 5Rs, and highlighted eco-initiatives like Vanamahotsavam, green startups, and EPR. She urged collective action for a sustainable, plastic-free future.

Green drive at Rashtrapati Nilayam concludes successfully

The three-day World Environment Day celebrations at Rashtrapati Nilayam concluded on Thursday, attracting over 1,400 students. The event was aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability among young minds. On the final day, a plantation drive was held, during which more than 200 saplings were planted by various agencies. Krupakar Ravipati, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Tourism, Dr. K. Rajani Priya, Manager of Rashtrapati Nilayam, and other officials actively participated in the initiative.

HMDA aims to sow 4.5 lakh seedlings in 2025-26

The HMDA launched a major afforestation drive under Vanamahotsavam, aiming to plant 450 lakh seedlings in 2025–26. At Padamatikancha and Sanjeevaiah Park, officials planted diverse native species to boost biodiversity. The Urban Forestry wing also plans greenery along highways, parks, and lakes to make Hyderabad a global green city.

ISCUF, Tanzeem Insaf call for enforcement of climate pacts

ISCUF and All India Tanzeem Insaf held a World Environment Day rally and meeting at Sundarayya Park. Syed Azeez Pasha highlighted India’s deforestation crisis, noting 5.5 million trees lost between 2019–2022. Speakers urged strict enforcement of global climate pacts, action against forest loss in Telangana, and citizen efforts like tree planting and avoiding single-use plastics.

TGFDC conducts bird walk, seed ball workshop

Telangana Forest Development Corporation marked World Environment Day at Botanical Garden, Kondapur, with bird walks, plastic awareness talks, a seed ball workshop, and eco-garden tours. Naturalist Aparanjani and Botanist Dr. Veera Kishore led sessions. Assistant Director V. Thanuja highlighted the plastic crisis. Students from JNTU participated, and certificates were awarded to all.
